Summer Intern Information
Interns
An “intern” is a person who desires to reserve a space in UAH Housing who is not enrolled in classes
at UAH. This includes co-op students and visiting scholars. Each intern shall be required to fill out an application and to submit payment prior to receiving room access.
Reserving a Room
Interns must complete an Intern Housing Application and submit a deposit to the Housing Office. The deposit will be applied to the balance due for housing. You may pay the fee by check, cash or credit card. To pay by credit card please telephone the Housing Office (256) 824-6108. Please note: there is a 2.75% service fee on all credit card payments.
Submitting Applications
After completing your application, you may submit your application online by using the submit button. You may also print and mail your application with your deposit. Submitting online or faxing your application you will need to call the housing office to pay by card or USPS mail your deposit.

Dates for summer intern housing for 2024 will be announced soon.
Location
Room assignments are based on availability. There may be certain instances when an intern will be asked to complete a room change. University Housing will make every effort to avoid changes. If relocation becomes necessary, UAH will notify the resident as far in advance as possible.
Rent
Rent calculations are based on a weekly basis. The first day of the week begins on Saturday (night)
and ends after the following Friday night, (7 nights). The current weekly rate for a private bedroom, two-bathroom suite, in a four-person suite will be announced soon. Rental rate includes utilities, cable, local phone service, parking pass and Internet. Room rates do not include linens, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, parking fines, etc. Rent is due in full prior to moving in.
Checking In to your Room
Interns check in at the front desk of the Residence Hall they are assigned.
Rules, Regulations and Policies
Interns and guests are held accountable for UAH rules and regulations and are expected to be responsible community members. The UAH Housing Handbook is posted at the Housing website and interns are responsible for the policies noted in the handbook. Interns also sign a housing contract agreeing to abide by the rules and guidelines set by housing and the University. Failure to abide by UAH housing policies can result in being asked to leave University Housing.
UAH is a smoke, tobacco and vapor free campus.
Meal Service
Dining services operates on a modified schedule during the summer and hours of operation will vary. Interns may eat in the CTC’s Charger Cafe, or the Bevill Center’s Garden View Café. A meal plan is not required. Cash, credit and debit cards are accepted. Dunkin Donuts (located in the Charger Union) is typically open Monday-Thursday 7 am to 2 pm.
Information about Housing

Frank Franz Residence Hall is the primary building for summer housing. The four person suite consists of a private bedroom, one bathroom for two residents and four residents share a common area and one storage closet. Each bedroom is furnished with a bed, desk, and chest. Common areas
have a microwave, refrigerator, and sink. Furniture in the common area: a sofa, two armchairs, a table and for chairs.
Internet Access
Currently internet is available with a wired or Wi-Fi connection. Interns from campuses with Eduroam will use their campus log in credentials for access. If students have no access Eduroam, the intern will receive a guest account and a password for the campus visit. Gaming systems (Xbox, etc.) can connect to the internet but must be registered through the OIT Help Desk for access.
Laundry Facilities
Laundry facilities are located in each residence hall. Each load (wash or dry) of laundry costs $1.25. The machines use quarters and have card swipe access. Interns may set up a flex account on their ID/Access card for payment.
Parking
There is adequate parking on campus at UAH. You are not required to purchase a parking hang tag unless you are enrolled in a class at UAH. If you are an intern not enrolled in classes, parking passes are distributed through your residence hall at check in. To obtain a parking pass at move-in, you must submit your name, driver’s license number, license tag number. You will be assigned to park in the parking lot of the residence hall you are assigned.
Bicycles
There are bike racks at each residence hall. You are required to register your bike with the UAH Police Office. Registration is free. Please bring your own lock to secure your bike outside in the bike rack. Bicycles are not allowed in the buildings.
The University Fitness Center
The Fitness Center offers interns a special summer package, $40 per month with no membership
fee. The facility offers a large weight room, basketball courts, walking/running track, swimming pool, cardio center, and scheduled classes. Contact the fitness center for membership.
